The Country

Located in Northern South America the Republic of Colombia borders the Caribbean Sea between Panama and Venezuela; and the North Pacific Ocean, between Ecuador and Panama.   Its capital is Bogota and Spanish is the official spoken language.

Colombia is recognized worldwide for the production of coffee, flowers, emeralds, coal and oil, its cultural diversity and for being the second richest country in biodiversity in the world.   Its major exports include petroleum, coal, emeralds, coffee, nickel, cut flowers, bananas and apparel.  Top import commodities include industrial equipment, transportation equipment, consumer goods, chemicals, paper products, fuels and electricity.

Home to an approximate 45 million people, The Republic of Colombia is the fourth economic center of Spanish America.
