Guidelines on the Verification of Gross Mass of a Container
with Cargo Packed in Hong Kong
Dear Valued Customer,
Please be advised that “Guidelines on the Verification of Gross Mass of a Container with Cargo Packed in Hong Kong” has been published by the Marine Department of HKSAR in their website. Stakeholders can visit the related government website and access to the details here.
The guideline provides two methods for verification of gross mass of a packed container.
Method 1: Shipper may weigh the packed container by using the weighing scale authorized by the Marine Department of HKSAR;
Method 2: Shipper may weigh all packages and cargo items; including the mass of pallets, dunnage and other securing materials to be packed in the container and add the tare mass of the container to the sum of the single mass using a method certified by the Marine Department.
Shipper opting for Method 2 to obtain the verified container mass is required to submit its procedure for approval by the Marine Department. Please refer to “Part III Registration of Shippers adopting Method 2” in the published guideline for more details and click here for the application form.
VGM guideline in China is still under review by the China Ministry of Transport (MOT). We shall keep you informed of the latest development as they become available.
