The port city of Visakhapatnam (Vizag) was hammered as the cyclone HUDHUD made landfall at 12.05 pm (IST) on 12th OCT. .
Packing wind in excess of 200km/hr, the cyclone downed power and communication lines, closing roads, railways and airport. The high velocity winds battered and ravaged the city, severely affecting the district of Vizianagaram and East Godavari, throwing normal life out of sync.
The port city of Vishakhapatnam was without power supply since Sunday night. Communication systems have collapsed at many places for several days afterward. Huge damages were caused to infrastructure, crops and telecommunication. Vizag Port suspended operations on Saturday night, 11th of Oct, 2014. It was not until 15th October, 2014 early hours that partial vessel operations resumed.
Due to this unprecedented natural calamity, the terminal had declared Force Majeure on the 15th of October, 2014. Attached please find the notice of Force Majeure recd from terminal.
OOCl had 11x40RQ laden containers inside the terminal waiting to connect onto Passat Summer v.261 when the cyclone struck. Through multiple checking and inquiry, no notice of damage was received until now. The containers were loaded onto Passat Summer v. 261 which sailed Vizag on 17th Oct, 2014 without any incidental report.
