Indian dockworker strike postponed
Trade unions representing dockworkers at various major, or public, ports in India reportedly agreed to defer a nationwide indefinite strike scheduled for April 19 until May 12 following preliminary talks with officials from the Ministry of Labor on Monday.
At the meeting, the chief labor commissioner suggested union representatives have another round of negotiations with officials from the Indian Ports Association (IPA) on April 21 in an attempt to reach a settlement, port sources told. The IPA is the umbrella body for all major ports in the country.
An official statement regarding the strike postponement is expected shortly.
