OOCL’s CEO Andy Tung Receives Honorary Port Pilot Award
In recognition of outstanding individuals for their leadership and achievements in international trade, the Port of Long Beach (POLB) presented its highest honor to Mr. Andy Tung, OOCL’s Chief Executive Officer, with the Honorary Port Pilot Award at an evening reception in Hong Kong on October 17, 2014.
Named for the harbor port pilots who are entrusted to safely guide cargo ships in and out of the port, this prestigious award began in 1954 honoring many chief executives of leading corporations as well as government leaders including prime ministers, ambassadors, members of Congress, and presidents such as the Hon. Dwight D. Eisenhower and Hon. Ronald W. Reagan of the United States in 1954 and 1988 respectively.
“We’re pleased to present our prestigious Port Pilot Award to a very deserving Andy Tung,” said Mr. Doug Drummond, President of the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners. “His progressive leadership and lifelong dedication to reshaping and enhancing international trade – as we’ve seen in our next-generation Middle Harbor terminal partnership – should serve as a glowing example for all industry executives.”
As the 77th honoree of the Award, Mr. Tung received a memento from Mr. Drummond and remarked: “This is truly an honor, and I am very thankful for the decades of friendship and support from the Port of Long Beach community. I look forward to many more decades of collaboration, joining hands to build one of the most competitive and vibrant ports in North America, fostering open trade and commerce that will enrich the economy and bringing in new business opportunities to domestic and international enterprises.”
Prior to his assignment as Chief Executive Officer at OOCL in 2012, Mr. Tung had served in various leadership roles at the company. He is well recognized by his peers in the shipping community for his contributions to various industry organizations over the years, including the Hong Kong Shipowners Association and the International Chamber of Commerce Commission for Transport and Logistics.
